owls, marshmallows and a capella

My friend works at the Portland Audubon's rehab center, so I spent the morning with her, seeing the birds they have at their center.  I got to see some neat animals - among other things, a saw whet owl, a flammulated owl, some Canada geese wandering around the treatment room, a brush rabbit.

I took off for my next stop about lunchtime.  The drive into Eugene was fairly uneventful and pretty flat.  I was aiming to make it in time for the Friday afternoon a capella performance at UO.

It was a lot of fun - the University of Oregon has three great a capella groups - Mind the Gap (co-ed), Divisi (an all-women's group) and On the Rocks (an all-men's group).  They were all dressed up for Halloween, just a few days away, and put on a great show.

On returning to my friend's house, we proceeded to hang out, make s'mores, and watched Little Shop of Horrors and Into the Woods.  We then finished off the evening playing with guitars and singing campfire songs, because, after all, what else are you supposed to do when you've got a fire going and roasting marshmallows?

Mind the Gap

This would be a blurry picture of a saw-whet owl or maybe a picture of a couple of Canada geese, but it isn't (photos taken at the Audubon center are for personal use only, no hanging on the web).
